Pastor Michael Walker

Hello, church family! My name is Michael, and since June 2025, it has been my great privilege to serve as your pastor here at First Baptist Church of Smyer. My wife, Tifany, our five wonderful children, and I have felt so welcomed and loved from the very beginning. We truly count it as a joy to walk alongside you, serve the Lord together, and be part of what God is doing in this wonderful community.

Tifany and I have been married since the fall of 2012, and she remains my closest friend and greatest encouragement. She reminds me that ministry isn’t just the big church, but also our little church as she homeschools all of our children and takes care of the home in our daily life—she is truly the anchor of our home life. Our family is a tremendous blessing, and our five kids—Trinity, Uriah, Titus, Mercy, and Noah—fill our home with laughter, energy, and constant reminders of God’s grace and faithfulness. Together we take seriously the call from the Lord to “teach [the doctrine of God] diligently to your sons and you shall speak of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up” (Deuteronomy 6:7).

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Biblical Studies from Spurgeon College, and pursuing my Master of Divinity at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Diving deeper into God’s Word has always been a passion, and I’m especially committed to expository preaching—unpacking Scripture verse by verse so that the Bible’s own message shapes our hearts, minds, and lives as we hear from God Himself.

Throughout my walk with Christ, I’ve been deeply shaped by the writings and ministries of many faithful men who have gone before us or who continue to serve in our day. Some of my heroes in the faith include giants of the Reformation and Puritan eras like Martin Luther, John Calvin, John Knox, John Owen, John Bunyan, Thomas Goodwin, Thomas Watson, Jeremiah Burroughs, Thomas Brooks, John Flavel, and Jonathan Edwards; powerful 19th-century voices such as Charles Spurgeon, J.C. Ryle, and A.W. Pink; 20th-century expositors like Martyn Lloyd-Jones, A.W. Tozer, and James Montgomery Boice; and contemporary teachers who faithfully proclaim sound doctrine, including John MacArthur, R.C. Sproul, John Piper, J.I. Packer, Wayne Grudem, Joel Beeke, Paul Washer, Voddie Baucham, James R. White, and Mark Dever. These men have modeled a high view of Scripture, the sovereignty of God, the centrality of the gospel, and a life of passionate devotion to Christ—convictions I pray mark my own ministry.

In the quieter moments (that are pretty rare with 5 kiddos!), you’ll probably find me with a good book, jogging to stay active, or—best of all—sitting across from Tifany with a cup of coffee, talking about life, ministry, and whatever “adventures” the kids got into that day. Those simple rhythms keep me grounded.

Most of all, I’m excited about the future God has for FBC Smyer. I believe He is at work here—drawing people to Himself, growing His church, and using ordinary people like us to make much of Jesus in West Texas and beyond. I’m honored and grateful to be on this journey with you, and I look forward to seeing all that the Lord has in store.

Thank you for letting my family and me be part of your church family. I’m grateful to serve you, pray with you, and point us all toward Christ together.
